Any clues of the best way to deal with rats lodging in the asparagus bed? Can’t let the dog there or she’ll dig the bed up. Thanks Richard

I shall probably get in trouble for this comment, but here goes. If you can see the rat holes you can pour a very small quantity of petrol in and drop in a lighted paper. This is very effective at killing the rats with little or no damage to anything else.

Ray – thanks – and there was I feeling I shouldn’t mention the rat traps I’ve been using! Yours is an interesting idea – luckily the runs are nowhere near the wooden shed! Richard

I have used this a number of times myself with some success.

How much petrol do you recommend? My husband says he can imagine explosions running all along the fence alarming the neighbours – let alone me!
I’ve used boiling water before but had the problem of the little critters running out at top speed. Would that not happen with the petrol?
