I want to pick your brains! I know of at least 2 large or very large greenhouses in my area that are not used, so I wondered about renting them and was trying to think of the downsides and how much it may cost me….
So down side may be access/resources such as water since both are fairly close to peoples homes. Both would require a fair amount of labour to get in to growing order mainly cleaning and the odd pane of glass ( I have access to some of that). Not sure what else?
Im hoping to be able to pay in plants/ produce BUT especially for the larger one which is probably 80 foot by 60 foot I think I will have to pay cash (even though it is much bigger than I need) What do you think would be reasonable to offer – I guess it has a value as storage?

It all depends! how long they have been empty, if a long time then you might offer less, even nothing if you agree to repair the broken glass and keep them tidy.
Also whose water would you be using? That is an important cost.
It sounds an exciting project, and you would have no time off, even in rainy weather!

Thanks Charles – I think you are very wise! Having had a closer look at the biggest I don’t think it will work for me as it was set up to sell fucias and is all concrete and staging and having done a quick estimate it would take an awful lot of imported compost to do anything worth while and I just don’t have the time to do that.
Still investigating the smaller ones. 🙂
