This is something I really struggle with. I don”t have a huge amount of space in which to grow my crops and so try to optimise the available ground.
My question is this: if you have two rows of vegetables which have two different row spacings, growing side by side how do you determine the row spacing between rows of these different veg.. For example, if you grow veg A and B side by side and veg A has a normal row spacing of 12″ and veg B has a row spacing of 6″ what row spacing should you use between adjacent rows of A and B?
Final question. You will often read that if you grow in raised beds you can plant closer. but how much closer. I hand weed my beds, never ever walking on them once I have planted.Don.
Yes its tricky to grow some vegetables together, especially courgettes which pull moisture and nutrients from a long distance around.
Too close is not good as you remark. You need to use the higher figure, the 12″ in your example, otherwise veg B will suffer.
