    Hello All

I dug up Sage in April from my allotment. It was sat in a container for a couple of months, and I planted in its final location in July in my garden. It is rather leggy, about foot high, and leaves looking quite sad. It is regrowing from the base in places with fresh leaves. Do I prune it back now, Autumn or next spring?

    Thanks
    Gary

yes Gary – mine gets leggy most years and responds well to being cut back quite hard.

Thanks Bluebell, should I do it now or wait a while?

Herbs are generally not too worried about when they are cut back in my experience. So I tend to cut back in several stages that reflect my capacity to use them (Sage Jelly is great with poultry). Or of course you can freeze or dry . IMHO all herbs tend to have a slightly better flavour if you can cut them on a warm day.
