we have now been offered a big quantity (maybe 200kg) of chunky sawdust. and we’ve also been offered ‘several large bags’ of the stuff from the bottom of a charcoal kiln – i.e. wood ash mixed with charcoal dust.
should we combine one or both of these with the masses of mostly unrotted sheep bedding/manure that we’re planning to spread to create our beds?
is it right that the sawdust will be a good source of carbon in very nitrogen-y manure?
i read here that the charcoal finings don’t add nutrients but can be a good soil conditioner – do you think they are good to spread straight away?
