I am sure I saw you make a comment some while ago about using West Riding Moorland Gold for seed sowing but I now can’t find the post. I’ve used Fertile Fibre a few times but not been happy with germination and so think I should give something else a try. If you do use Moorland Gold for seeds, do you use their seed mix or just the straight peat and add to it, or is too acidic? Would lime, sand and some dung or seaweed make it viable? I’ll buy a mixed pallet of their straight peat and potting compost, so I suspect they’d allow me to add one or two bags of seed compost if necessary. Any suggestions gratefully received, many thanks.
I use West Riding multipurpose for sowing too and this year’s mix is especially good for that, being lighter. I do not worry about acidity, any supplier of peat based compost will have checked that.
Just to avoid confusion, their term "Moorland Gold" is describing the (recycled) peat only, which they sell like that with no additives if you want just the base.
I have struggled to find a good seed compost and always reckon that a good multipurpose should live up to its name. Last year I had good success with sowing into pure cow manure! Good luck with whatever you use.
