Well I have now put in my seed orders for next year and I was wondering what different/ unusual or interesting itmes you all  have planned for next year?

Nothing too unusual for me this year Bluebell, very exciting that sheet mulching is finally off and I now have most of the allotment ready to receive a wide variety of vegetables. Good luck with your growing, unusual or otherwise.

I have ordered Yacon from Real seeds this year – hoping that it grows as well and is as tasty as Charles’

Stringfellow – I think every year is exciting – even if you are growing exactly the same as last year, who knows what the weather will throw at you or what you will learn new…

That is so true Bluebell, and pests change every year too. I am trying less new things, since some of them are less than brilliant, want to do better on what I know works well. For example Futsu B;lack squash taste disappointing compared to Uchikii Kuri.

But yacon has been brilliant, now to see if I can overwinter the root buds for plants next spring.

I agree Bluebell, every year is exciting with growing: the chance to improve on last years performance, try new varieties and learn more about how nature ‘works’ etc. Being a relative newcomer to this, I’m primarily interested in finding varieties that grow well in my region and taste great. In addition, discovering what we like to eat most and then what quantity to grow them in – not so simple! We’ve really enjoyed Red Kuri this year and have a few stored. Blue Ballet a little bit sweeter; good if you like that; I prefer the Kuri! Intercropping holds lots of potential for experimentation and an increase of growing time, I find this particularly interesting and the potential very encouraging. Enjoy!

Charles I would love to know if you ( or should I say Steph) icome up with any interesting recipies fo Yacon, whilst it is great raw Im sure that it could be a tasty addition to cakes and salads.

My learning curve this winter is my greenhouse – I am very surprised how well things ahve been growing in there when they would have stopped outside. Although with last nights frost that may have changed. Only thing that is not looking good is the Pak Choi – thought I ahd got rid of slugs!
