Soil Tests

Hello

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to get a comprehensive soil test done? We have just taken on some new ground and what to find out what the mineral balances are like before we cover the ground with plastic.

Hello Henry, its best is to check out growth of weeds and plants, they give ‘real time reports’.
I think its risky to rely on lab reports but if you want a test, check out Laverstoke Park for a biological one.

Ha I thought you may say something along those lines! Well, it has been interesting seeing what has come up since the field has been ploughed/power harrowed/oats and peas harvested. Lots of creeping buttercup, dandelion, scarlet pimpernel, and some clovers. I have been meaning to look up to see what these plants are trying to tell me about the soil

As well as nutrients, weeds reflect soil texture and climate, so its not as easy as say reading a book!
Those weeds are similar to here except the pimpernel which has followed cultivations.
