Sowing Carrots

Hi, This is my second year of growing veg, I am using a 4 year crop rotation system. I know I cannot plant carrots in the same plot two years running, but is it possible to plant late carrots after earlies in the same plot?

 You could if your soil is in good heart – although if carrot root fly struck the early carrots, I would not as some will be hanging around.

Or revise your rotation and break it up a bit, for example early carrot followed by chard, then followed the next year by lettuce follwed by carrot. (just ideas, depends what you want to grow). Four year rotation is not obligatory and leads to many questions such as this one.

Thanks so much for the advice. Your book on no dig gardening really inspired me to start growing vegetables. I knew so little, and had so much to learn that I thought the 4 year rotation would require a little less planning. Yet I am amazed how much time I have spent even planning what, and how much to grow, sow dates, planting on, planting out. I am absolutely loving it, when I’m not working I’m thinking about my vegetable plot. Never dreamed gardening could be so interesting. Thanks again.
