I’m keen to get on and sow beetroot in modules in the next week or so. I’ve got seeds of boltardy, Cheltenham green top, burpees golden and chioggia; am I right in thinking that boltardy are best now (and the others for a second sowing in May/June)? Hope all’s well in Somerset; your course at West Dean last year (and books) are continuing to inspire. Out of interest, why did you move from Lower Farm to Homeacres?You are right, Boltardy now and the rest later – other varieties are likely to bolt if sown this early.
My move from Lower was because of separating from Susie. It was a challenging year.

For others’ benefit, you mean sowed rather than planted. The two acts are different and I suggest sowing seeds, planting plants to avoid confusion. One or two grey areas like potatoes which feel more like planting: even though they are called seed potatoes, it does not feel like sowing.
