Hi, I grew Calabrese (Marathon F1) for the first time this year as an autumn crop and I have been pleased with the result. Having enjoyed some fresh and given several away, I wondered if the remaining heads could be frozen (or even dehydrated?!?!) – has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions for its storage?

This variety grew well here in York so I’ll be growing it next year and may add a few more plants if storage can be successful.

Thanks and hope everyone is enjoying the annual perusal of veg/ fruit catalogues 🙂

I’m pretty close to you and usually end up with a glut from several cuttings of I think ‘matador’. We blanche and freeze the excess with no issues.

Thanks for your response Mad4fev and it is good to know that I can blanche then freeze. I wondered if freezing without blanching will work and avoid them being a bit ‘mushy’ once thawed; I may try both and see how things go. Thanks again.

I suspect freezing without blanching would be more likely to lead to the florets going ‘mushy’
