To cut off or leave as they are? Or can they be tranaplanted, I have plenty of space for them as many of the sweet corn plantletts failed because a grub got in the root and ate/rotted the plant – any idea what this grub was or how to keep it at bay would be useful too.
I have tried removing sideshoots compared to leaving them on and noticed little difference in the main cob. Never thought of transplanting them, worth a try in your gaps, they will crop later, depending on the weather ahead.
I don’t know what the grubs are, is your plot an existing garden or new pasture? possibly wireworm if the latter.
