hi ya i have a contract gardener who drops of ton bags of grass clippings hedge clippings ect i have stacked it in 3mtr squre clamps enclosed with pallets it has rotted to a nice black crumbly substance but still has a lot of bulky stuff in it is 6months old, so i made a riddle 4ftx3ft out of 1inch weld mesh attached to 3×2 timber frame got all the fine good stuff out the restacked the rough stuff at the bottom of the new clamp, this composting lark is as interesting as growing i can not wate to see what results i get from growing in this black gold, i have just started a large clamp for leaves there is about 6 ton bags on it at the mo more will follow this week …………….pete
Thanks for sharing this, your compost sounds great, let us know how it does for growing, or for potting too.
When starting out composting many years ago I was warned not to use grass clippings from lawns treated with weedkillers until they had been mown 3 times.
I don’t know if this advice is still valid or if your supplier of clippings uses weedkillers but it might be worth checking on.
And your right! – making compost is as interesting as growing the plants, perhaps even more so….
