Hello Charles and hello British gardeners! I would like to ask if anybody has some experience in raising sweet Walla-Walla onions. This year I have sown this variety for the first time. For a good control on the germination rate I used a module. The germination was extremely disappointing. On the other hand a sowing on same day and in the same circumstances of Red Baron onions gave a very satisfying result. Could it be that Walla-Walla is a lot more fussy? Or should I cast some suspicion on the quality of the seed?
Greetings from Flanders!

Hello Robert and welcome to the forum.
I grew Walla Walla two years ago and it germinated the same as other onions. I think yours is poor seed. Onion seed appears to lose quality fast and it may be older than one would like. I have had some problems in all of the last four years, with onion seed from different sources.
The fact that your Red Baron came up well shows your compost and conditions are good.
