What to do with a big border between now and spring next year?

I need to spend all my waking hours finishing our renovation on our house until next spring. This leaves me with a border about 3m x 10m. What should I do with it between now and then?

It depends whether you have some compost to spread or any organic matter will be good as soil feed.
Then it depends what weeds are growing, they need suitable mulching.

So in theory there is no harm in, say, adding 3 inches of compost, then another 3 of mulch (I have loads of stulch to get rid of)

That is a good plan, the strulch will make a nice cover on top and reduce weed growth even more. I hear it does not discourage slugs, you will find out if that is true next spring, best of luck.
