Which No Dig book would you buy ?

If you had an allotment and you were starting out which one of Charles Dowdings books would you buy ?

I have had my allotment for a couple of years now that I have found a system of growing I am happy with I want to re design my allotment. The site is sloping so I am thinking about terracing it, would this be better than growing on a slope ?

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Hello Maxine, for starting out, perhaps the Course Book.
Regarding your slope it depends how steep and my preferred option is beds up and down, with no wooden sides, for less runoff of water & compost across the top of beds, unless you terrace them across but that needs a lot of wood.
Both ways work, its whet you prefer.

Recently ordered “How to create a new Vegetable Garden”…. had a thorough look…. It´s awesome! A grrrreat more detailed book with loads of pics about setting up beds etc… Definitely a must have! An added extra additions and improvements to the older books…. a MUST-HAVE! 🙂

Thanks for the reccommendation Karen.

I am just reading the Vegetable Course book that I received earlier this week. I have a lot of work to do and decisions to make about my allotment makeover. Firstly I have the level the plot by making a few terraces then I think I am going to put a path either side to give some distance from the neighbouring plots that are rather wild. I am looking a making raised beds again due to wild allotments either side of my plot I think this will give me the best chance of getting the soil and keeping it clean. I also planted some Raspberry canes in November and they need to be mulched and last but not least I need to get the compose area up and running…………. So it’s all go down on the plot.

Try to get the book I just mentioned…. loads more pics and info…and in much more details… plus it also gives more details about when to start sowing tables…

tbh… I have pretty much all his books! except for the journal…. it´s never too much too much too much with his books! They are easy to understand and logical. I have loads of gardening books and I swear I am always referring to his. 🙂

Don’t be daunted by the tasks ahead…. every effort made is WORTH WHILE… our garden is a testimony to it (the neighbourhood is always raving about our garden that we hope our coniferous trees will grow tall soon coz we are kinda shy about it) … I am still learning each time we make any changes or improvements to it.

ps: we are living in Germany hence our garden is set up and planted a lot differently from the locals…. many thought our raised beds with sides looked like “caskets”! yikes! ha!
