Spider mites love dry conditions, so I’ve got a separate ‘wet’ greenhouse for cucumbers, which are particularly sensitive to spider mite. On the other hand, tomato blight wants damp conditions, and that’s why our separate tomato greenhouse is kept as dry as possible during summer and autumn.

Since my post in Oct 2017, a stray ginger tomcat has taken residence in and around our field. Vole damage has gone down to almost nihil, hurray! Good job, Tom!

Definitely a white carrot, probably from an unwanted cross. Carrot crosses readily with Queen Anne’s Lace, and your seed grower almost certainly didn’t isolate the carrot seed crop 100% from this wild plant. Test this strange root yourself: it smells like carrot & tastes like carrot, but it’s rather fibrous.
