I find this forum very helpful and being on the gentle side it is full of good quality information.

I view this most days without signing in and echo Christine’s comments especially on compost.

Face book is not and never will be option so please keep this going.

    Hi Eric,

Your explanation makes sense, I’m thinking just follow on a smaller scale, if I have to many I can pass them onto others on the plot.

Looking at what I have done so far I’m thinking this could be the explanation.

None of the seeds planted on Feb 16 are ready to go outside so the 9 March suggestions are for sowing seed direct into the ground.

I am going to sow 9 march suggestions in green house hoping this will give me 4 weeks between future sowing.

Regards you concern about autumn/winter sowing this seems to be covered later on in the calendar example 31 July.

I am sure we will both have lots of success (& few failures) using Charles calendar and be much wiser this time next year.

What are your opinions on recycled compost made from green waste that the council takes away, mixing with with manure.

    Would this work?

I hope so as that is what I have done.

I do not know what thickness Charles recommends.

When I did this last year I did not have a lot cardboard so just used one layer which worked ok.

I have more this year and finding it helps paths if there is a thicker layer plus using thicker layer on new developing plot.

Rather than earthing cover in straw.

Also have you checked out Charles video on growing potatoes in compost?

I have been using debris/scaffolding netting.

Used the green then found a 50m x 3m roll in blue for £30 delivered.

That’s good to hear Charles, thanks.

Turned 3 bays full of compost yesterday and started another bay, got to say there is some good stuff in there.

A couple of observations from my build which may help others.

I put a roof on to catch water I should have made it 6 inches higher as kept hitting head.

Would have been good to make the dividing walls between bays removable, possible half way up, to make forking from one bay the other easier.

I have just made a 6 bay compost unit.

When bay 1 has shrunk down can I add it to another bay that has shrunk down although both bays were started at different times.

Like you use of the plastic green house shelves as a cover for your plants.

I lined the sides with cardboard to stop the compost falling out your reason has made it more relevant.
