    Hello Charles.

In your diary on page 48 you say “Most weeds expire under a 6 ins mulch of firmed ingredients, of minimum 50-100% compost, perhaps with soil if you have it.

I am building new beds on alotment which I have taken over, it has very few weeds just grass. The soil is very sandy as I am very close to the north Norfolk coast.

I intend to fill the beds with horse manure, mushroom compost & shop brought compost.

I have access to lots of good topsoil should I use that as well and if so what ratio.

Thanks for you informative email which I alway look forward to.

    Hi Colin
Yes on sandy soil I would add as much of everything as you can! I would put soil first to keep it’s weed seeds buried and also because it naturally sits under compost. Say 2-3in soil and 6in compost, or 4in compost if you can’t manage 6. All good for holding moisture on your sand, and food.
