I have a young Royal Gala apple espaliered against a wall in my garden. This year it has brown areas (not spots) on the leaves which are getting larger. See photo attached. It looks like it is drying out, but the brown areas do not feel dry to the touch. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what it might be and what I should do to control it?

ElleGee I think that is scab – brown areas on leaves, spots on fruit. Royal Gala’s “parents” are Cox and Golden Delicious, both prone to scab. Increasing your soil health with organic mulches, perhaps seaweed, will help.
