I planted my 2 year old asparagus crowns very late, first week of april.
I did not dig a trench, only took away some grass and put them on the soil
with some soil on top. Today, 2 weeks later I see asparagus growing through. Sure they are tiny, but still.
Someone told me I can eat them and wait until end of may before I let them grow and become tall.
This person also said that I do not need to cover with more soil this year since I do not want to harvest big asparagus anyway. Is this correct ? Anyone having similar experiences ?
