Good evening Charles. We have completely redesigned and re-developed our veg garden. Although you are not keen on raised beds, we have (for various reasons!) gone that route. We have had help from a local garden contractor for some of the heavy work – polytunnel, levelling the site after installation of a new sewage system etc. We ordered several tons of spent mushroom compost for our beds as a start on quite a number of of beds. The compost was put in the beds back in November, about 5 inches, and now, looking at it, it has settled considerably and seems quite compacted. I think “solid” would be a better description! As a first timer on no-dig, I have no idea whether this is “normal” and if not, what we can do about it. Can you, or anyone, advise?
