Hope that everyone is sowing their trays now.

I just “pricked” up my first broccoli seed after 3 days of growing at 22°C.

    I found this :
    4 cm above soil
    AND
    4 cm below soil !!!

Now I am looking for Deep Plug Trays,
at least 10 cm deep, not more than 3-4 cm in diameter.

I found this at “HerkuPlast”, but they only sell wholesale.

Anyone who knows about any source for “Deep” Plug Trays that are not to big in diameter ?

Raymond, growing in the south of France.

Hello Ray, you simply need to coil the root into a module of normal depth eg 50mm (2in). Roots do not need to be vertical when pricked out or transplanted (another Myth!) and also one can bury the stem to make sturdier plants.

However it works best to prick out seedlings before they are too long. And growing in full light makes them sturdier.

Have you tried Deep Root Trainers. They are expensive to buy but last forever if you are careful with them. I got mine at a local end of season sale and they get used for several crops a year. Not sure if they are available in France.
