    Hello all

Having put in my poles for French beans at 8″ spacing am I ok with my plan to grow two beans per pole? I usually leave 6″ between plants but this has seemed too much previously. The beans are in a single row in a 30″ wide border so have no other root competition.

Looking forward to some warmer weather.

Anyone grown them this close before?

I plant them closer than that. Survival of the fittest!

In Organic Gardening Charles suggests 12″ apart for climbing French beans. I assume this isn’t multisown but I can’t tell from the text. Joy Larkcom suggests 9″ spacing because research shows French beans are more productive further apart, so I would go with 12″ if you can.
