Hi there. I’m looking to purchase a lifelong harvest knife … the sort that will live in my back pocket for years, be whipped out to cut off broccoli heads or courgettes, and fold easily back without taking one of my digits with it.
Am looking at the Opinel No. 8 but does it do the job and is it bulky? Any advice greatly welcomed. Would prefer to buy British if possible. Thanks in advance.

That one’s worked well for me, five years and not counting….

I’ve used opinels over 40 years. They do the job, and not too dear when you lose it. No 6 or 7 is big enough for me

My preference too is Opinel, could do with one with an inbuilt homing instinct!

I have used a Japanese Hori-Hori knife for the last 30 years.
    Never found anything better.
