    Good evening Charles,
I have some chicory plants which I don’t know the variety as I bought them as seedlings from a nursery. It has large red- dark green leaves. Up to now I was just harvesting the outer leaves for salad but now I have noticed most of them have fist sized, squat, conical, fat hearts. They are not firm yet and I am wondering when and how to harvest them. And if I harvest the heart, can I leave the plant like the cabbages to grow more leaves and possibly new hearts? Charles, What Should I do now?
Wish you a nice weekend. Thanks and kind regards.

Maybe a Palla Rossa variety, in ten days or so some hearts should be firm and I would cut one to check. Don’t wait for them all to be soild as some will by then be rotting. So check and harvest the firmest as you need them. After cutting they make new but small regrowth in mild winters and until flowering in May.
