If beds are prepared and used year on year and say once established an inch or so of compost is added every year how much does the bed depth actually increase by year on year .
So if creating new raised beds would you allow extra depth on the retaining sides for the next twenty years or so ?

Very little increase year upon year. Its said it takes 1000 years to “make” an inch of topsoil.
To contain the added compost you could ease the frame upwards a little, or discard completely , I expect Charles will say.

Thanks for that , I may end up with brick built edges so at least I wont be forever increasing the height
