I have been sorting my compost heap and found in parts of it quite a few insects that look like small white flies – although not flying. Don’t look like fruit flies at all. Any ideas what they might be and whether they are a problem? Thanks a lot.
I am not sure what they are and I would not worry either; their maggot stage may have been great for helping improve your compost. Most insects are part of the endless food chain as well as being useful themselves.
