Hello Charles, re. mulching asparagus beds with cardboard to keep weeds down, I had a follow-up question, i.e. does the cardboard need to be removed at some stage to allow the asparagus to spread (I imagine it must!). If so at what stage, and does the same apply to raspberry beds? Thank you!
Asparagus grow year on year by enlarging each root, so they would need only a larger hole for a wider clump of spears. while raspberries can be invasive with suckers popping up at some distance from parent plants, so no worries there.
