I have been given half a dozen bags of mushroom compost . It has been bagged for over a year. What would be the best way to use it on my allotment?

Lucky you Jeanette, I would mulch anything, even spread it an inch thick and sow carrots.

Thank you Charles. I will use some to sow carrots and mulch the brassicas with the rest.

I have some organic mushroom compost from Mr Muck that I have spread around the garden generally. I am wondering about mulching the veg beds with it this autumn but keep reading about possible contamination with chemicals. It says it is organic – is there a problem with using it on the veg beds or not? Any advice appreciated.

I would use it. Its a pity though that the organic word is used too freely.

Thank you. Yes, it’s confusing which so much half-information being given. I think I will use it now that I have it to hand.
