Our leeks have been badly chewed this year. we have also had one attack from parsnip moth. This attack concerned me greatly, as I had never heard of this beastie, to the extent that I went to a garden centre on a Sunday to buy something horrible to treat it with.

Would you advise netting these two veg and, if so, which mesh size would we need. As I have raised the issue of netting, which would be best for cabbages?

The finer net is much more expensive than the “normal” and money is always tight.

It is frustrating to have new pests, Sorry you had the parsnip moth, sounds horrible. I imagine standard enviromesh keeps it out, but I find that one or two leek moths always find their way in or through.

As for netting I have not used it, am assured that 6mm is the right size hole though it seems large to me. You can but bt as Dipel I think, but in large quantities.
