We have just moved home where we plan to put in veg & orchard. The area is in central scotland, up a hill, rather exposed, clay soil. Have ordered 5tonnes of well rotted horse manure. As a starter, could anyone advise in material to use for paths between the veg beds please. I could not tell from the pictures what Charles used. Many thank you.

Hi Christine, it depends what you have growing there now, is is pasture or just weeds or ? I used cardboard here (new card on top every ten weeks or so, until weeds dead), up your hill that would need careful weighting down.

Thank you for your reply. The ground had previously been farmland. What do you use after the grass has died down? And you mentioned about the use of wooden edger which may encourage more slugs in. I know with the soggy land at the moment, that I would certainly need to raise the beds up.

Hi Christine, these threads might help you make a decision. Good luck with your plot!

Many thanks. I will look through these tonight. As the sun is shining and not raining so much at the moment, we made the most of it outdoors today. Thank you again.
