My Kollerstrom 2018 calendar arrived today and I noticed for the second year in succession that he reccomends very early sowing of parsnips (2018, 3rd March). He does also suggest sowing around the Equinox 2018 but suggests sowing in April will reduce crop yields.

I normally sow around the Equinox, I just wondered if you had ever tried around the beginning of March and if so, what your experience was?

Rhys, in the 1980s I was on stony, drier soil and sowed parsnips in February, for successful harvests.
Now on heavier soil I find that later sowings result in less canker, usually anyway, am considering April next year. just Q of keeping the seedbed moist.

OK, I am also on heavier soil so I will stick with my usual routine…..
