    Hi Charles,

Just harvested the first red orache leaves today, a spring tonic for the eyes and soul!

Was wondering how you harvest your orache plants? Like tree spinach , pinching out growing tips therefore getting it to bush out, or just keep harvesting lower leaves?

Deer’s favourite food here is orache, without fail they seek it out , touching nothing else (apart from young tree spinach) , sticking heads under nets etc!

So i’m keen to keep it small this year so I can protect it !

Sorry to hear about your deer, I wonder what is in those leaves!
I take any larger leaves, then the main top in May but after that it becomes stemmy and often has aphids so mine is short-season harvest, then tree spinach takes over.
As you say the colour is a tonic, especially as Red Frills is starting to flower now.
