Most of my books tell me it is not advised to propagate rhubarb by seed. There supposedly is (considerable?) uncertainty about the progenity’s characteristics.

My situation is as follows: I have three plants, obtained by division of a large crown last year. This plant, however, a gift from somebody who is somewhere in his 90s and received it from his grandfather when he got married.
I like the taste of this particular plant. Since all three plants are genetically identical and no rhubarb is found in the close neighborhood, I wonder how much the seedlings would resemble the parent plants.

I am crossing the Atlantic for a family visit. I would like to take some seeds with me instead of roots, but it might not be worth the effort if there is a lot of variability in the seedlings’s gustatory characteristics.

Dieter I am not sure whether they come true but it’s worth a try.
I bought some rhubarb seed once and had a decent crop the following spring.
