Charles – I usually use synthetic moisture matting inside the large trays in which I put my module trays of seedlings. As I was sorting stuff out for the sowing season I realised that it would probably be more sustainable if I used sand. Would you agree with this? If so should I use sharp sand or is there something else which would be better?

Ros I wonder what your  ‘moisture matting" is. and what exactly you are using it for?

I look to have best possible drainage under module trays, such as a pallet/narrow wooden boards/sharp sand: anything to let moisture pass through and away.
