ive found a source of spent coffee grounds, am i right in thinking that onions, garlic and asparagus prefer a acid soil. if this is so can i spread said grounds over the beds at any time.

are there any more veg that would appreciate a sprinkling.

Spread them anywhere Ladbrokes as they are pH 6.9, almost neutral, because the acidity has come out in the coffee we drink!

Adding feeds and amendments actually changes pH very little because the quantities we add, although seeming large to us, are small in proportion to the mass of material in soil and subsoil. After using mushroom compost for example (high pH) my soil did not become any more alkaline.
