I see that there are a couple of companies offering wasabi plants for sale this year. Has anyone tried to grow one yet? If so are they as hard as is made out and are they worth the effort for the return?

I have tried to grow this in pots for clients who wanted to grow some. So far it has been a lot of faffing about with no return. Several of them died too – I had 5 plants.

    Hi Bluebell,

I tried growing some last year, they were totally demolished by the slugs. Apart from that, wasabi really does need very specific conditions, moist, shaded, good drainage and a rather steady temperature around 21° – not something I can give them. I personally won’t bother again.

Thanks both – I will give that a miss then as I have quite a busy year lined up and so probably not much time to lavish on such a fussy plant
