I accumulated my first pile of manure last fall from neighbor’s house. Her horses were fed certified weed-free hay and kept on a dry lot. I was hoping to let the pile age and spread on beds this fall. There is much grass and weeds growing on pile. Should I have turned it earlier (I haven’t mixed it at all) and also I didn’t cover it…

I am not convinced that any hay can be weed-free! However its not a problem, I would cover the heap now with a plastic sheet and the weeds will add to its goodness as they die.

Hmmm, “certified weed free” could mean sprayed…. I would test it with some lettuce. :O)
