I have been lucky enough to find a source of well rotted horse manure, which is decomposed to the point of looking like black soil and it is full of worms.  There is no smell from it, it just smells like good soil

Would this make the ideal medium for planting veggies and fruits directly into, or should I add something to it like vermiculite to provide some drainage?

I would be fascinated by your reply, and thank you for your time.

    Best wishes

I had really bad batches when i added vermiculite, i don’t like it.

Now i use vermicompost and fine sieved leafmold for module sowin and it work wonders for me.

Compost in general does not need draining stuff mixed in in my opinion.
