thanks charles, my paths are already disappearing! when they become a nuisance i shall attempt to stem the tide!

As an aside i accidentally pinched out a courgette growing tip when taking off a leaf on the growing stem! oops.. I hope it will send out another..

Well, this hot weather means that the first bean has reached over the ridgepole of my support structure! just over 2metres.. and Blauhilde won the the race! amazing!

I wonder how high a bean would climb if it could carry on?

ok so i sowed some marzatica, lusia, agena, treviso rossa & sugarloaf today! (and some other things, strange sowing for winter in this hot weather!) Perhaps i will sow some more radicchio later as well, and see what happens.

Well the beans have recovered really well, and the new ones i planted as replacements are looking sorry as they got their leaves blown off! And as they werent established when that happened they are well behind the originals now.. :)

thanks charles, yes i’ll replace the very worst ones then..

Wind aside – one specific plant has been systematically nibbled every night – doesn’t look like slug damage , they are curving ‘bite’ marks on the leaf edges, quite strange..

    out of interest :

yes we have some new moles moved in this spring – so far not much damage – fingers crossed! We did lose a couple of weak plants, and have a whole bed of lettuce wilt in the hot weather – a good watering, and a bit of firming in sorted them out, and they are all fine now.

I have been generally really impressed with smaller plants’ resilience to being lifted up almost out of the soil!

and Yes it is annoying seeing our stony brown soil appear amongst the lovely black compost haha!

Also i almost fell over as i walked down a path and sank into a mole run underneath which made me lose my balance!

What predates on moles? Owls perhaps waiting as they poke their heads out at night?
