    It depends on the manure content in my experience. Too little and it can take ages to break down properly – 2 or 3 years. I have added it to the compost heaps before spreading and its been fine. Also, it can be acidic so you may need to lime if growing brassicas etc.

    Maybe not completely PC but I took on a dock-infested allotment last year so I sprayed with Round-Up, covered with black polythene for 4 months and then 2/3 inches of very well rotted manure. So far not a single dock since.

    I also have purchased from Keith direct, not through Amazon. Good products and very good service. His anti-butterfly fleece is quality and gave me a caterpillar-free crop last summer and autumn.
