I’m still happy with a mint-tea-bag solution. Catmint didn’t work for me. In the last 10 days are springflowers coming up that I lost year after year befor. Lettuces, onions, garlic and much more are all there. Because of the smell of the mint. Give them a try.

I will try put a pic again, I see it didn’t work last time.

    Neil,
I had to wait for several years to get this stage of soil like yours!

I started my garden in summer 2010 on weedy, rock hard clay soil. The same tragedy on 300 m2.

I began to dig and stopped after a few minutes. Tried it never again. In the first two years it was not possible to sow any seeds, just planting seedlings. The solution was compost and more compost. And cpmpost again!

    Happy gardening!

    Hello,
I successfully tested two methods against deers, both of them well. Spreading leftover coffee grounds and human urine. It dont needs to be applied on the plants it self, just around the beds or in the corners.

Two years ago,my neighbour lost almost all vegetables in one night. I didn’t. I regularly spread coffee grounds when available.

I’m femal, I don’t have a necessary tool, but I collect urine in a bottle. Just a little bit works great. Very easy and for free. No deers more.

Lettuce, started indoors one week ago in damp coco peat. Germinated after four days, transplanted in pure home made compost from kitchen waste and dried leaves (Vani Murthy style). After transplanting placed day and night on the balcony under the clotche. No leggyness at all, becouse of enough light from sun rise till sun set.

After years now I know how to, thanks books from Charles!

    Hello,
I have a no- dig garden placed next lawn and woodland. There is almost imposibble to not-have slugs.
I realized that one plant (for me) works realy well – Nigella damascena.

My garden is a mix of ornamentals and vegetables, so I started sowing Nigella in every corner of my garden. Once seeded, this plant reseed by them self every year. For my surprise, the young plants are winter green and protect overwintered salads and onions.

This spring I started Nigella seeds indoors with other seedlings. So they will have a good protection when planted n the beds.

Hi, I had a huge problem with mices in the last years and lost a lot of plants, shrubs and apple trees.
Last spring I started my mint project with planting a lot of mint plants, and also using cheap unbrewd mint tea for the winter time. I put it in and around my composter, in the planting whol when I planted plants and in each mice whole witch I found in the garden. This was a first time (in 7 years) that I had dhalias!

In my composter were no signs of mices!

I’m happy to say, it works for me. A month ago I planted a globe artichockes and a preannial kale. They still there!
