    Agreed. I planted 6 crowns a couple years ago. I get a couple of spears per day in season. None of them make it inside!

    I’ll be curious to see what others say as well. Instead of adding my grounds to the compost pile I’ve been sprinkling them directly around the bases of my roses the last few months and in December I am still getting blooms.

    It may be a combination of things…a night recon mission turned up a few slugs; a few seedlings were pulled right out, which is probably birds…

    Thanks, I’ll look for that. We get occasional moles but no gophers luckily.

    I am thinking of taking some of my lawn for planting. There’s some Bermuda grass in there. Will the 6″ of compost work on that as well? There’s the old joke of “How do you get rid of a Bermuda lawn? First step – buy a new house…”
