mine have done the same and are going to seed after looking great. would it be the very warm early spring weather making them bolt.
my kale is bolting too
18 months ago it got 4″ of rotten horse manure followed by recycled compost. the levels have dropped quite a bit. ive spread some spent multi purpose compost around the roots.the plants are very healthy with masses of green leaves
ta very much
i also grew charlotte last yr and will be growing them this yr. i tried pink fir apple last yr and they were superb and gave a huge yield. the swift i grew were tasteless so wont be doing them again. may go back to pentland javelin
my broad beans are shooting up as are my onions. my purple sprouting are huge. spring cabbage look like being bumper crop.
thanks charles. have you grown frosty before. my other kale is red russian which i know is not ready till feb time.
im digging my leeks up tomorrow as the damage from another leek moth attack is terrible. i hope to salvage some and freeze them.
its a hybrid shallot
id like to think that all the horse manure and recycle compost that ive put onto the soil is working.
i chopped back to ground level
after chopping the leeks back a second time due to moth attack they are now looking very healthy
thanks for all the info charles. they battle goes on. going to try double netting next year.
ive chopped them back to ground level twice, im now worried they might bolt.
the trouble i do have is leek moth. they have attacked my leeks and onions and both were covered
i had a similar problem not as bad but im now reaping the rewards of doing it properly.
