Was just going to start a new thread and saw this..
My psb this year are huge,but all the sprouts seem concentrated at the top which seems very congested.
They are nearly 4 foot high and have contributed to the compost heap well.However there are no sprouts coming from the lower stems.Any advice is most welcome.

Thanks everyone for the replies,it’s free delivery so I think I will buy one dumpy bag in the autumn to see what it’s like..
I got given 1500 litres of spent compost last Feb (it had been in unused polytunnel beds for three years without water)I spread it on two 15×1.8m beds and covered with membrane,then grew pumpkins/courgette squashes.They all grew fantastically.Took the membrane off in October and planted one bed with overwintered onions/garlic,all growing really well, under snow at the minute though.The most important point though,is that there are absolutely no weeds at all.Whereas in my own compost,Im having to swish the rake over cos I’m seeing thousands of seedlings even in Feb..I’m now “No dig and proud” lol.

Measure out a bed,say 15 foot by four and dig it over.See what’s there then do a few foot by foot squares here and there, then that should give you an idea of what your up against.
You might have to dig/clear the whole plot,even if you have to do this then your then ready for no dig.
What was on the land before it was designated for alottments? this you need to find out..

I tried something similar with leaves last autumn,I spread a 6″/8″ layer of leaves on a bed about 4 foot by 12,then covered with 3″ of rotted horse manure.
In spring of this year, I tried to plant my module sown climbing peas in the bed.It was impossible to do,under the composted manure was an impenetrable bed of solid leaves (they were maple/sycamore).There had been no composting whatsoever,I scraped the lot off and filled one of my compost bins.I did have a good crop of peas though totally weed free and now have some nice compost (I did turn and add to it through the season.)

Is there a minimum order requirement for these trays? the website is a bit sparse re.details/osdering etc.

Well technically it is organic because it’s an element..
I very much doubt though, a specific crop on an allotment would fail just because of a trace element missing.

Thank you for the prompt reply Charles youve put my mind at ease.I planted 48 crowns and was starting to worry.
I bought them from a commercial grower thats only recently started to supply to the home grower.
After numerous trips around the “big” garden centres I stumbled across their site and I now have eleven to thirteen spears per crown,it looks like a primeval forest.
I now have three of your books now Charles and two allotments,when I have more time I will post how this came about lol.
