Thanks for that Charles. I used slightly smaller modules and planted out when much smaller. I have 3 varieties this year which I have just sown, now it’s wait and see.

Thanks Charles, I’ll get them in on Saturday. I’ve got some fleece to cover them.

I have always understood that pigeon poo was very strong and should be added to the compost bin rather than spread on the ground.

I’ve been told to sow mine about now but with a bit of gentle heat and leave the seeds on the top of the compost as they need light. I understand that they can be very slow to get going but will romp away when warmer weather comes.

I never cover mine and they usually survive unless they get very waterlogged. Assuming they are an autumn sowing variety they are pretty hardy.

I mulch a lot with straw and I don’t find it gives a greater problem with slugs.I grew all my potatoes under a straw mulch this year, with no earthing up. 12 rows 5 meters long and only two pots lost to slug damage. Others may have different experiences.

I have a crop of winter density growing nicely in a fleece tunnel. The fleece is over hoops about a meter high as I previously had some early Brussels there. The wind has made a couple of small holes so there is plenty ventilation.

Have to agree with Charles here. I have used trays, but they are not an option for me these days as I have rheumatoid arthritis which affects my hands badly making pricking out a difficult job. I grew Swedes in modules for the first time this year and have yesterday pulled two at nearly 2 kilos each. First time I’ve ever had success with Swede.

I have a number of beds with these recycled plastic boards. I have not found much difference with them drying out in comparison to non edged and there has been no difference with slug damage this year. However ants love them . They live in the gaps between the twin wall construction. Seems that they like to be dry and warm.
