    HI
Creoso to the no dig idea, , We are in south wales and if you are ever in the area would be happy to show you what we have done. We use the local green compost that the council get a company to process they deliver to us 20 tons in a big tractor but I am sure where you live you would find a farmer with plenty of composts to deliver it is worth asking around. good luck

I use calendula and nasturtiums but be warned once you introduce them, they love the no dig and can will easily grow every where.
The nasturtium leaves get as big as dinner plates but whilst they are great in salads, as the flowers are too, but you can find if they get away on the compost they strangle other plants if not controlled, I have just rescued some red cabbages! Nasturtiums also die at the first frost but the next year watch out.
    Good luck!

Try your local council who may be able to deliver green compost I am not sure where you are based but hope this helps.

You could try making a fake gun I have heard that this can be very effective. Round by us we suffer with lots of shooting , both a military base and locals shooting at rabbits. and this seems to scare the pigeons off, I hope that is the reason anyway.

I had this early on this year and took off all the affected leaves and then they all grew and are still growing really well in there compost, so don’t worry like Charles says

    Hi Charles
I h ve had the same problem on my cucumbers and thought it might be magnesium so I dowsed with Epsom salts twice and it did not work, so a mentor said he thought it was red spider mites and when I looked real close at the leaves I did see tiny webs so I have spent money on the predators and hope that works so they don’t over winter! it is a shame as I have lost 2 cucumber plants and the melon looks unwell. I spoke to Mike at Defenders of wyebugs he was really helpful. I hope you can sort it out. Ali

Hi we are using nettle feed made in a big water tub with a tap on the bottom we jam if full of nettles and then top up with water cover and use on the toms and cucumbers and beans and you can see a noticeable difference in the colour of the leaves. We are getting a bit desperate for rain nothing at all for 3 weeks now and 27C to day phew. When is it best to water?

    Hi Mateo
Not sure where you are based, we are in south wales and I had Greek and land cress, Chervil and frizzy mustard outside they were doing great without any protection, then the rabbits attacked!!! Interestingly the Rabbits did not touch the Land cress, they loved the mustard and chervil and Greek cress though. The land cress is growing fast now and looks healthy. We have manged to get something to eat from it all winter, I would recommend land cress to over winter and I see that Charles grows this as well. GOOD LUCK

this year we have had plenty of problems in the winter, first the rabbits took a liking to the outside curly kale and parsley, the frilly mustard and chervil. Then the rats moved in and damaged the last few peppers in the tunnel. The mice and shrews are also around but only cause a little damage compared to the other larger rodents. We have had to build rabbit proof enclosures about 11 m by 6 m each and they do work so good luck to you if you try this do remember to put some of the rabbit netting on the ground otherwise they just dig for access !!

    Thanks Charles
I have already taken cuttings off the perennial kale and they have established and are growing well, so may stick with the new ones and eat up the existing plant in the hungry gap, as for the artichoke I will try as you suggest, it is a spectacular plant and would be sad to lose it so I will do as you suggest and thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

    All the best for 2016

    Hi Dizzychicken

Our council outsources as well, they contract with a local farm who collect all the little compost bins and then take to convert to compost and there vans are always around. It was fairly easy to find them, we do live in rural south wales and the local farmers agricultural/ hardware store has details of them but I am sure the council waste department would be able to assist as well, where are you based in the UK?
